It's no surprise to anyone that knows me that I am an avid rules follower. When the light is red, I stop. Keeps life tidy and predictable. Our beloved Nani was an avid rules breaker. The light was never red, rather, a nice shiny glow of orangey-yellow. No need to stop. Many years ago when Nani asked us to set the Thanksgiving table with a beautiful dry arrangement and candles, I did mention the rules set forth by the fire department, "keep flammable materials away from heat sources." This was met by, "Oh Vesna, it will be fine!" Needless to say, we had an exciting Thanksgiving dinner accompanied by "the burning bush" that only grew larger when Uncle Ron tried to extinguish it with his wine. No worries, we did douse the flame followed by laughter so loud it's imbedded in our memories. From now on I will embrace a little rules breaking. Makes life more exciting. How lucky I was to be able to learn this lesson from Nani. She and her shenanigans will forever keep us smiling.
